Glories of India

The Forgotten Megacities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa: A Civilization That Outsmarted Time

The Marvel of the Ancient World

Centuries before the Roman aqueducts or Chinese dynasties, an advanced civilization flourished along the banks of the Indus and Saraswati rivers. Known today as the Indus Valley Civilization (IVC), or the Harappan Civilization, this mysterious society emerged around 3300 BCE and thrived until about 1300 BCE.
The cities of Mohenjo-Daro (“Mound of the Dead”) and Harappa are its two most iconic settlements. When discovered in the 1920s, they upended global assumptions about the origins of urban life.

Urban Planning That Surpasses Modern Cities

One of the most baffling aspects of these cities is their ultra-modern urban planning:

  • Grid Layout: Streets intersect at right angles.
  • Sewage System: Underground drains and public baths indicate an advanced hygiene culture.
  • Standardized Bricks: Uniform brick sizes point to central authority and planning.
  • Granaries and Warehouses: Suggest a structured economy and centralized storage.

It’s hard to believe this was happening 5000 years ago!

📜 A Script Yet to be Cracked

The Harappans developed a unique writing system, which remains undeciphered. Unlike Egyptian hieroglyphs or Sumerian cuneiform, their symbols haven’t yielded to scholars. This has led to conspiracy-level curiosity: Who were they really? What knowledge have we lost?

🕉️ A Civilization Rooted in Vedic Harmony?

Several scholars suggest the IVC aligns more closely with Vedic culture than we’ve been led to believe. The recurring Swastika symbol, fire altars, and evidence of yoga-like postures have led many to assert that the Harappans were not a separate civilization, but an early Vedic society.

Could it be that India’s civilizational roots are older than the Rigveda itself?

🧪 Blowing the Aryan Invasion Theory Apart

The discovery of IVC sites all across India—especially along the dry bed of the Saraswati River (mentioned in the Rigveda)—is challenging the Aryan Invasion Theory. Instead of “Aryans invading from Central Asia,” it appears that Vedic culture may have originated in India and radiated outward.

The IVC isn’t just a mystery—it’s a silent witness to a falsified history.

🔥 The Great Bath of Mohenjo-Daro

Among the most iconic structures is the Great Bath—a massive public tank made of baked bricks and bitumen. This wasn’t a swimming pool. Most believe it was a ritualistic bath, similar to the Snana (holy dip) in modern Hinduism.

It’s a spiritual echo from antiquity.

🛕 Religion, Art and Symbols

  • Mother Goddess figurines indicate fertility worship.
  • Pashupati Seal shows a horned deity in a yogic posture, resembling Lord Shiva.
  • Sacred symbols like the Swastika, Trident, and Peepal Tree hint that this was not just a city—but a spiritual hub.

🚨 Why Did This Civilization Collapse?

There’s no evidence of war, mass destruction, or foreign invasion. So what happened?

  • Climate change?
  • Shifting rivers?
  • Internal decline?

The truth remains buried, just like their cities.

🇮🇳 India’s Glory Buried in the Sands
While the world celebrates Mesopotamia and Egypt, India’s greatest ancient cities lie in Pakistan (Harappa, Mohenjo-Daro) and India (Rakhigarhi, Dholavira)—often ignored in global history books.

Why? Because recognizing their greatness would force the world to accept that India was the cradle of civilization.
